Yakisoba (literally translated to 'fried noodles'), is a summertime festival favourite in Japan, both because of its delicious umami-rich flavour and because it is relatively easy to prepare large batches of it on big barbecues. An authentic yakisoba requires noodles, cabbage, carrot, pork, yakisoba sauce, and heaps of tasty garnishes.
To prepare:
Open lid from Point 1 (marked on lid) to Line 2. Remove sauce, mayonnaise, and garnish sachets.
• Add boiling water until the noodles are covered. Replace lid and wait three minutes.
• Open outer lid at Point 3 to reveal strainer. Carefully drain excess water.
• Remove lid entirely. Stir in yakisoba sauce and mayonnaise. Sprinkle garnish on top.
Variants:
Blue (Pork Salt)
It is a gutsuri-based salty fried noodle with a rich and rich finish full of pork umami. The special garlic mayonnaise is stimulated with black pepper, which goes well with it, giving it a more addictive taste.
Black (Stir-fried)
Japanese yakisoba fried noodles with their savoury yakisoba sauce, slices of pork, and diced cabbage all fried up on a big iron grill are a classic Japanese street food. It's usually topped off with some diced pickles and drizzled with Kewpie mayonnaise to finish it off.
